Steven J. Shafer’s practice focuses on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions and financings throughout the United States.
Steven represents clients in the acquisition, disposition, development, and large-scale mortgage and mezzanine financings on behalf of borrowers and lenders of office buildings, shopping centers, and apartment, co-op and condominium complexes. Steven also counsels clients in the negotiation of joint venture agreements, and acts on behalf of landlords and tenants in the leasing of office and retail space.
JDS Development in a $650 million mortgage and mezzanine loan for a luxury multifamily construction project located at 626 First Avenue in Manhattan, known as the “American Copper Buildings.”
- JEMB Realty in a four-year, $235 million loan as well as a $60 million EB-5 mezzanine loan for the construction of One Willoughby Square, the 500,000-square-foot, 36-story office tower in downtown Brooklyn, New York.
MSD Partners and Slate Property Group in the $92 million condominium inventory loan to Simon Baron Development in connection with its project located at 12 East 88th Street in Manhattan.

ERY Developer and Oxford Properties in the leasing of a 750,000-square-foot multi-level shopping center being built at Hudson Yards. Hudson Yards is the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States and the largest development in New York City since Rockefeller Center.
