Dr. Jayita Guhaniyogi’s practice primarily focuses on intellectual property and patent infringement matters with an emphasis on chemical, biotech, and pharmaceutical patent litigation, particularly under the Hatch-Waxman Act. She has experience in all phases of patent litigation, including fact and expert discovery, depositions, client relations, claim construction, motion practice, and trial. Additionally, she has several years of patent prosecution experience in the life sciences, and has worked in IPR and interference proceedings.
Jayita’s patent experience spans matters involving a wide range of technologies, including cardiovascular, stem cell, drug delivery and formulations, tissue transplants, medical devices, small molecule drugs and polymorphs, peptide and protein medicaments, and protein chemistry and purification.
Prior to joining Kasowitz, Jayita worked as an intellectual property litigator at various New York law firms. While attending law school, she held several IP positions, including as a patent agent at a global law firm, and as the Intellectual Property Director for two start-up biotechnology companies, where she was responsible for the overall management of the companies’ corporate IP portfolio and outside patent counsel.
Jayita has a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology. Jayita’s Ph.D. and post-doctoral work involved protein X-ray crystallography, proteomics, cancer biomarker discovery, and numerous biochemical and biophysical techniques.
