Homeland Security Veteran Mark J. Robertson Joins Kasowitz as Special Counsel

Mark J. Robertson has joined Kasowitz Benson Torres LLP as Special Counsel in the firm’s Government Affairs and Strategic Counsel group led by former Senator Joseph Lieberman and former Connecticut Attorney General and Senate Chief of Staff Clarine Nardi Riddle. Mr. Robertson represents clients in crucial government regulatory, enforcement and public policy matters, and advises clients on legal aspects of their national and homeland security issues.
Mr. Robertson has extensive knowledge and experience in the national security sector, having served in senior positions with the Department of Homeland Security from 2004 to 2007. There, he played a leading role in connection with the Department’s major legal and policy issues, including those involving homeland security technology, cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure protection.

Mr. Robertson served as Chief of Staff to the Department of Homeland Security’s General Counsel and as Associate General Counsel for Science and Technology. Mr. Robertson played a central role in the development of the final regulations implementing the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies Act of 2002 (the SAFETY Act).
Since his service with the Department of Homeland Security, Mr. Robertson’s practice has focused on representing leading security technology providers, critical infrastructure owners and operators, government contractors, and trade associations, and advising clients with interests arising from national security and homeland security efforts, including border security, transportation and cargo security, cybersecurity, chemical security, emergency preparedness and incident response, biodefense, protection of critical infrastructure and key resources, and SAFETY Act liability protection.
Kasowitz’s Government Affairs and Strategic Counsel group provides public policy advocacy and strategic counsel to individuals, firms, non-profits and trade associations at the intersection of law, business and public policy. The group combines strategic counseling, substantive policy knowledge, and insiders’ experience and perspectives on Capitol Hill to support the firm’s clients.
