Steven Coury is a counsel in Kasowitz’s transactional real estate group.  Mr. Coury has extensive experience representing borrowers, lenders, servicers and investors in connection with commercial mortgage-backed securities and commercial real estate lending, including loan structuring, loan participations, A/B notes, mezzanine loans and intercreditor arrangements.  He also routinely counsels clients in all aspects of commercial real estate transactions including acquisitions and dispositions, financing, leasing, partnerships, joint ventures, development, real estate fund formation, and workouts and reorganizations.  Mr. Coury also has represented lenders, investors, servicers and borrowers in connection with commercial loan workouts and foreclosures.

Mr. Coury has advised major institutions, including Deutsche Bank, Bank of America, Citigroup, Fortress, CIT and Anglo Irish in connection with the origination of mortgage loans, mezzanine loans and secured and unsecured lines of credit, syndication and securitization of loans, and workouts and foreclosures of loans.

Prior to joining Kasowitz, Mr. Coury was a counsel in Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP’s real estate group.

Representative Transactions

  • Represented lender as lead attorney originating and syndicating a $275 million, 143 hotel, 27 state mortgage loan.
  • Lead attorney representing a department store in restructuring $1 billion of securitized senior debt and subordinated debt.
  • Represented institutional lender in origination, securitization, syndication, foreclosure, and disposition of a $5 billion highly-structured portfolio loan on seven trophy Manhattan office properties.
  • Lead attorney representing bank in Manhattan bank branch leasing.
  • Represented investment manager in entering joint venture for development of luxury housing in Southampton, NY.
  • Lead attorney representing investor in joint venture to acquire Manhattan hotel.
  • Represented lender to solar farms and rooftop solar producers.
  • Lead attorney representing lessee in negotiation of ground lease and subsequent acquisition of 450-acre monastery.
  • Formed REIT and drafted PPM and management agreement major REIT manager.
  • Represented gaming operator in the acquisition and joint development of race tracks and casinos in six states.
  • Represented purchaser of Las Vegas casino.
