KBT&F Obtains Preliminary Injunction Against Organized Recycling Theft Rings in San Francisco

William M. Goodman

KBT&F, on behalf of client Norcal Waste Systems, Inc. and two of its corporate units, obtained a preliminary injunction on February 26, 2009, against numerous defendants who operate organized recycling theft operations throughout San Francisco.  It is estimated that these recycling theft operations have cost Norcal and its recycling units in excess of $1,000,000 in recycling revenue losses per year.  With the entry of the injunction by the San Francisco County Superior Court (in Sunset Scavenger Company and Golden Gate Disposal & Recycling Company v. Perez, et al.), Norcal and the San Francisco Police Department will now be able to target the named defendants for arrest and prosecution in the event of any violations of the injunction, because such violations are separately prosecutable crimes under California law.  KBT&F partner William M. Goodman and associate Tania Mortensen handled this matter as co-counsel for Norcal, Sunset Scavenger, and Golden Gate Recycling.
