Marcos Daniel Jiménez
New York, NY, January 25, 2010 – Kasowitz Benson Torres & Friedman LLP announced today that Marcos Daniel Jiménez, the former United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, has joined the firm, focusing on complex commercial and white-collar litigation. He will serve as managing partner of the Miami office, and also maintain an office in New York.
“We are very pleased that Marc has joined Kasowitz Benson,” said Marc Kasowitz, the firm’s managing partner. "As reflected in Marc’s accomplishments as U.S. Attorney and in private practice, he is one of the country’s top litigators. His talent and experience further solidify our presence in Florida and enhance our national litigation practice.”
The move continues the firm’s strong national growth and follows shortly after an elite group of 13 insurance recovery litigators joined the firm in New York earlier this month.
As the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Mr. Jiménez ran one of the largest U.S. Attorney’s Offices in the country, leading 230 federal prosecutors to successes in matters of national security, health care, securities, corporate and consumer fraud, narcotics trafficking and money laundering organizations, public corruption, violent crime, environmental violations, and child exploitation, among other areas. Mr. Jiménez served on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee, a select group of U.S. Attorneys, which provides advice and counsel to the Attorney General. He also led the Florida-Caribbean Region of the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force.
In private practice, Mr. Jiménez handles complex commercial litigation matters, corporate internal investigations, and white-collar criminal cases. Mr. Jiménez regularly represents national clients, including Fortune 500 companies, in trials and appellate matters. Currently, Mr. Jiménez serves as lead trial counsel for the State of Florida agencies that administer the Florida Medicaid program in a class action challenge by the Florida Pediatric Society. Mr. Jiménez also serves as lead counsel for CDR Creances, S.A., a French government entity seeking to realize assets of a failed bank in the United States, and for Alltel Communications, recently acquired by Verizon Wireless, in a significant court challenge by the Florida Attorney General to Alltel’s marketing practices.
Mr. Jiménez has handled internal investigations for Fortune 500 companies, public entities, and private institutions. His most recent corporate investigation and white-collar representations include: an internal investigation for Florida's state-established property insurer; an internal investigation in the satellite industry; the successful defense of a national telecommunications carrier in a government investigation of its marketing practices; and the successful defense of the nation’s largest charter school management company in an inspector general investigation. Mr. Jiménez has also defended a wide array of criminal and compliance matters involving, among other areas: intellectual property, tax, currency reporting, insider trading, investment fraud, antitrust conspiracy, judicial misconduct, environmental violations, health care fraud, exports, elections, college athletics, and corporate employee misconduct.
“I am thrilled to become part of a pre-eminent national litigation firm handling significant cases throughout the country.” said Mr. Jiménez. Mr. Jiménez obtained his Bachelor of Arts
magna cum laude from University of Miami. He holds a Juris Doctor
magna cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law, where he graduated third in his class, and served as an Associate Editor of the
Law Review. He is a member of Iron Arrow, the University’s highest honor.
