Gavin Schryver’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation.  He began his career representing hedge funds, private equity funds and major corporations in commercial and securities disputes arising out of the 2007/2008 credit crisis.  Among other things, Gavin represented a family investment company in an arbitration related to the failure of the auction rate securities markets; a hotel developer in multiple litigations arising out of the failure of certain investment banks to fund the development of a major Las Vegas resort; and a private equity fund in litigation arising out of a stalled LBO.

Gavin also has experience representing companies in antitrust litigation.  He has represented Comcast, the nation’s largest cable provider, in its defense of a class action alleging a conspiracy to allocate markets in the Northeastern United States.  He also represented magazine wholesalers Source Interlink Distribution, L.L.C. and Source Interlink Companies, Inc. (“Source”) in their successful litigation against some of the nation’s largest magazine publishers and distributors, alleging that the defendants conspired to boycott Source in an attempt to maintain control over the distribution of magazines to retailers throughout the United States.  Gavin continues to represent magazine wholesaler Anderson News, L.L.C. in a similar action pending against the same defendants, and in the company’s bankruptcy proceeding.

Gavin’s recent representations also include the defense of MBIA Inc., the world’s largest bond insurer, in federal and state court actions brought by leading financial institutions challenging MBIA’s $5 billion restructuring of its structured finance and municipal bond insurance businesses
